Local crisis hotline- FYI
I thought this may be of interest to some of y'all.  Although they primarily serve the Charlottesville/Albermarle community, they accept calls from all locations.

HELP Line is an anonymous, confidential telephone service staffed entirely of volunteers and affiliated with Madison House.  HELP Line has been serving the community for 20 years.  The service is free, anonymous, and 24/7.  Callers are welcome to talk about anything they want, no matter how big or small the problem.

If something is on your mind, call 434-295-TALK or send an instant message to UVaHelpline on AIM.

What do you all do for New Year's around here?

I saw that there was First Night downtown and a few parties at restaurants/clubs. Any recommendations?

Any recommendations for dentists in Charlottesville?

I've been going to Albemarle Dental Associates on Old Ivy Rd. for the last few years, but I'm looking for a new place because I'm just not happy with the service I get there.

Yet Another Apartments Question
I'm a 29 year old professional who is hoping to get a job offer from UVA in the coming week or two. So, I'm starting to think about housing options and cost. Where do professionals tend to live? I'd love something that is within biking distance to the university, and/or walking distance to a good coffee shop. But, I don't want to be surrounded by undergraduates. Any suggestions about places to check out? Ideally, I'm looking to spend below $1100, and to end up with something with 2BR, with a bit of character (hardwood floors are nice!). Oh... and I'd like to bring my cat with me.

Any suggestions, oh friendly people of Charlottesville?

In search of a location...
Without boring anyone with too many details, I'm putting together a photo op requiring a rather specific location. I'm sure there's a number of outdoorsy folk lurking around here, perhaps you may have run across something like this:

I need a prominent hill somewhere with no trees in view. The ideal is a gradual grade, large enough to photograph from a perspective of about 50-100 yards and only have one side in frame. In effect, somewhere that looks a lot like this.

Sounds easy enough I know, but this area of VA tends to be a bit wooded. I don't expect anyone to be able to give me exact GPS coordinates but any hints as to where I could start scouting would be fantastic...

Very random question for the women out there: is there a good place to get a bikini wax in town? I'm looking for something not too terribly expensive.

Learn about Dracula this Friday

At the Jefferson Society meeting at 7:30 pm this Friday, I will be giving a lecture on the history of Vlad the Impaler and how he became Dracula, and also some stuff on funnel cake, the near-lethal conditions on the Romanian road system, the fact that Bela Lugosi's son became a corporate lawyer in LA, and some very friendly people I've met who actually drink human blood.  My book is "Sundays with Vlad" and you can find it at www.vladlives.com.  I'm a former Wahoo, and I can't wait to come back!
